Management Policies of the president
Established as the first government owned corporation, KOCOAL has strived to develop the coal industry for the past 50 years. KOCOAL is exclusively in charge of stabilization of supply and demand through managing domestic coal mining and importing coal abroad. KOCOAL takes pride in its contribution to the development of the industry with its continuous efforts in technology research, education of mine workers, and the execution of governmental projects.
KOCOAL has produced the total of 180 million tons of coal and imported 30 million tons since its establishment. With specialized technologies and manpower, KOCOAL is currently producing anthracite in three mines. KOCOAL is well known for its underground mining skills that can reach 1,000 meters below ground level.
KOCOAL is further expanding overseas mines in countries such as China, Russia, Australia and Indonesia, and focusing on developing the coal cleaning technology at the same time. It is certain that all these efforts will bring up a new era where coal serves as the best fossil fuel.

Development of Overseas Mine
Korea is currently experiencing increasing demand of coal and this condition is expected to continue in the years to come. Equipped with outstanding mining technologies and manpower, KOCOAL is developing overseas mines in countries such as Australia, China, Russia and Indonesia.
R&D
Research and Development
KOCOAL research center has conducted research on technology projects including mining methods, ventilation, drainage system, environment preservation, coal washing and coal utilization. By providing and sharing new technologies to private coal mines, the center has served as a successful role model of a government owned research facility.
